The most important energy regulation forum in the world ended

- Presidents and representatives of regulatory bodies from all continents debated the regulatory policies that will mark the future of energy development for Peru and the world.
- The event is held for the first time in a South American country; the next edition will take place in the country of Georgia.
Energy regulatory bodies play a fundamental role in the energy transition process and face a series of challenges at a global level, for which it is necessary to innovate in regulatory approaches that promote investment and also innovation, for the benefit of current users, as well as the following generations. This was one of the conclusions reached at the VIII World Forum on Energy Regulation held in Peru.
The closing ceremony of this world-class event that brought together more than 40 world leaders in regulation, was led by the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Osinergmin, Omar Chambergo, and the President of the International Confederation of Energy Regulators, David Danner.
“Each of the energy issues reviewed in this Forum opens a window of opportunity for us to establish energy policies that allow new types of businesses and technologies. Regulators have a responsibility to adapt to changes, guaranteeing access to reliable services and reasonable rates. Likewise, accountability and transparent communication must support our work”, emphasized the president of Osinergmin during his closing speech on August 25.
Chambergo Rodriguez also highlighted the relevance of the relationship that exists between energy and mining in the energy transition process, and that the role of the regulator in a context of innovation and disruptive technologies will be to establish clear rules for their integration, since the mining sector plays a dual role: as an intensive consumer of energy and as a supplier of minerals.
He also pointed out that the Forum, through its keynote speeches, has given the opportunity to review the geopolitical world and how it affects the energy transition and presents multiple challenges. Alternatives such as the carbon capture market, green hydrogen, the increased demand for metals for electrification and the sale of carbon credits, the development of efficient and lightweight batteries for vehicular transport will be part of the future agenda.
In his turn, the President of the International Confederation of Energy Regulators, David Danner, pointed out that the Forum had a constructive, educational and inspirational dialogue.
The next World Forum on Energy Regulation will be held in the country of Georgia in 2026.
